Sprouting — Tigers begin to mate; lychee grass pushes forth; a single yang returns. Sprouting is the initial stirring of yang qi within supreme yin, the secret germination of vitality within sealed storage. The virtue of sprouting teaches one, within the deepest storing and silence, to keenly sense and steadfastly guard that thread of renascent vitality, to harbor the hope of "from Stagnation to Peace," and to await the season's arrival in stillness.

Storing, silence, sprouting — contracting and nourishing (storing), knowing the season and being still (silence), guarding the nascent yang (sprouting): the three progress in layers, forming a seamless whole — the complete wisdom of Major Snow's "storing while awaiting release, yang sprouting within supreme yin."

This mode of living, knowing only growth and not storage, keeps the modern spirit in a state of chronic over-expenditure and unrelieved hyperactivity — anxiety, exhaustion, and burnout are the bitter fruits of "not knowing how to store."

Major Snow's wisdom is the profound corrective to this hyperactive way of life. It reminds us: life requires tension and relaxation in due measure; beyond growth, one must understand sealed storage; beyond clamor, silence; beyond advance, nourishment.
