XXXVIII. Worked Example Seven: A Partnership Studio with an East-West Four Destinies Conflict

This section is a fictional example, illustrating that a public commercial space cannot be laid out around a single person's destiny trigram.

1. The Difference Between the Two Principals

Suppose two partners run the studio, one belonging to the East Four Destinies and the other to the West Four Destinies, responsible respectively for content livestreaming and for finance and supply. Requiring every door, desk, and piece of equipment in the shop to simultaneously suit both destinies is bound to create contradictions. The overall layout should instead be fixed first by the shop's sitting-facing direction, its door and path, and the Xuankong chart, with the destiny trigrams used only for each partner's own fixed seat.

The livestreaming area belongs to active Fire, and should be placed in a palace where the facing star is usable and where soundproofing is code-compliant; the finance area belongs to still guarding, and should be placed in a palace where the mountain star has support. Within their own respective functional zones, each partner can then choose, between two workable desk orientations, whichever better suits their own destiny trigram. If the favorable direction would leave someone with their back to the door or facing screen glare, function should take priority over the destiny trigram.

2. The Use of the Eight Mansions House Trigram

The whole studio's house trigram is determined from its sitting mountain, and the Eight Mansions favorable directions are used to screen the meeting area and the rest area. If an unfavorable direction happens to be the toilet, simply keeping it clean is enough — there is no need to "suppress" it with a ritual. If a favorable direction happens to be a fire exit, keeping it clear is itself the most fitting use — no cabinet should be placed there to take up the space.

3. Annual Change and Collaboration

When the annual star Three Jade arrives at the meeting-room palace, tradition suggests a tendency toward dispute, and one can reduce loud, fiery decoration and use moderate warm light to drain the Wood, while at the same time making the decision-making process, contract versions, and meeting minutes clear. Genuine disagreements between people should never be blamed on a colleague's destiny trigram, nor should fengshui ever be invoked to pressure one side into submission.

4. Conclusion of the Worked Example

The shop itself forms the public layer, the functional role of each position forms the middle layer, and a personal destiny trigram forms the last layer. With this order of the three layers made clear, an East-West Four Destinies conflict does not require running the business as two separate shops. What is called "matching destiny to house" should help find a workable seat and orientation — it should never be used to manufacture labels between people.
