- Kan 1: North, Water, Number 1.
- Kun 2: Southwest, Earth, Number 2.
- Zhen 3: East, Wood, Number 3.
- Xun 4: Southeast, Wood, Number 4.
- Center 5: Center, Earth, Number 5 (Resides in Kun 2).
- Qian 6: Northwest, Metal, Number 6.
- Dui 7: West, Metal, Number 7.
- Gen 8: Northeast, Earth, Number 8.
- Li 9: South, Fire, Number 9. Mnemonic: Head on 9, feet on 1, left 3 right 7, 2 and 4 are shoulders, 6 and 8 are feet.
Function
The Nine Palaces provide the time and space coordinates for Qimen Dunjia deductions. All Stars, Gates, Spirits, and Instruments circulate within the Nine Palaces grid.
