Detailed Analysis of Zhi Shen (Branch Spirit)
Zhi Shen is a BaZi charting term referring to the Ten God names of the Hidden Stems within each Earthly Branch.
Basic Concept
Each Earthly Branch conceals one to three Heavenly Stems (Hidden Stems). These hidden stems can also be analyzed for their Ten God relationships with the Day Master. These Ten Gods annotated at the branch positions are "Branch Spirits."
Difference from Stem Spirits
| Aspect | Stem Spirit | Branch Spirit |
|---|---|---|
| Position | Heavenly Stem (visible) | Hidden Stem (concealed) |
| Quantity | 1 per pillar | 1-3 per pillar |
| Nature | Obvious external relations | Hidden internal relations |
| Strength | Direct power | Needs to "emerge" for full power |
Practical Application
Branch Spirits reflect deep underlying relationships within the branches—essential for refined destiny analysis. Stems are "visible"; branches are "hidden"—Stem Spirits show surface relationships, Branch Spirits reveal underlying logic.
